Aces and Faults

What a week it has been so far!  A week filled with highs and lows, met expectations and disappointment.  Here are just of few of the highlights:

Aces: American women’s tennis.  Even with Lindsey Davenport and Jennifer Capriati gone, it isn’t dead yet.  Vania King turned in a great performance defeating seeded Aussie, Samantha Stosur in the second round before Falling to Hantuchova in the third round.  This is the furthest she has gone in a grand slam and the first time she has strung together two consecutive wins in quite awhile.

Alexa Glatch had the misfortune of drawing Serena Williams in her opening match.  Serena is looking like the one to beat this year.

Clijsters had a weird win over Venus but let’s here it for the mom!  She hasn’t lost a thing on court.  Serena, watch out!

Melanie Oudin proved her Wimbledon success was not a fluke.  Let’s keep that train moving.  It already rolled over Dementieva, Petrova and Sharapova.

The weather, it couldn’t get much better!

Nadal, knee problems and all, he looks fit.  Let’s hope we can watch more of him this weekend.

Roger looks solid, don’t count on a Wimbledon letdown yet.

Faults: American men’s tennis.  Long gone are the days of Sampras, Agassi, Chang, Courier and Martin.  There are no Americans in the quarterfinals!  A revitalized Roddick looked promising after a spectacular Wimbledon final.  Unfortunately he faded to American John Isner who couldn’t keep his roll going.

Women’s Serbian tennis.  It looks like Ivanovich and Jokovich have come and gone.  Anna’s serve resembles Dementiava’s now.  She can’t even keep her toss straight.

Speaking of serves, Sharapova’s shoulder is still a question mark.  Will she ever return to her former #1 form?

Women’s serves.  Except for Venus and Serena, not much to write home about.  Do they even practice this stroke?

Mixed doubles.  Do we even care?  It looks like welfare for the second tier players.  Save mixed for the club.
